- No travel adviceby Smartraveller on May 29, 2026
- French Polynesiaby Smartraveller on May 29, 2026
Beaches in French Polynesia are not patrolled. There may be strong currents, even in the lagoons. Ask locals before going swimming, obey warning signs and follow the advice of local authorities. Stray dogs are common. Dog attacks have occurred. Don’t approach or touch dogs (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in French Polynesia.
- Israelby Smartraveller on May 29, 2026
The situation in Israel and the Middle East region remains volatile. There remains a risk of attacks and escalation. Follow any warnings from local authorities to avoid areas deemed to be at high risk of targeting. The local security situation could deteriorate with little or no notice. If you wish to leave Israel, can secure a flight and it’s safe to travel to the airport, we continue to advise you to make plans to do so while commercial flights are available. Flight operations may be suspended due to airspace closures and flight schedules may change at short notice. Check the status of any border crossing before you travel by air, land or sea. Border crossing points may be closed without notice (see 'Travel'). If strikes occur in your location, prioritise your safety. Follow local warning systems and, if warned of an imminent attack, move to an enclosed hardened shelter, ideally underground or close to ground level if available and it's safe to do so. Civilian infrastructure including hotels, roads, bridges, universities, energy infrastructure, including oil production facilities, water infrastructure and airports have been targeted and this may continue. We raised our level of advice for Israel to do not travel on 28 February due to the deteriorating regional security situation. If you choose to stay in Israel, prioritise your safety. Stay aware of your environment and avoid government, military or energy infrastructure. Avoid US diplomatic missions and other locations associated with US interests. Monitor public safety information updates through the National Emergency Portal (accessible in Israel only – see 'Safety'). Do not travel to border areas with Gaza (Palestine) or Lebanon. If you intend to travel by land into a neighbouring country, check the latest public information from local authorities on entry requirements and border arrangements, including opening times. Israel has a naval blockade in place along the coast of Gaza (Palestine). Don't join others seeking to break the blockade. Previous attempts to break the blockade have resulted in death, injury, arrest or deportation of foreigners. Terrorism is a threat, including in Israel. Maintain a high level of security awareness. If there's a security incident, follow the advice of local authorities. Terror attacks can occur anywhere at any time, including by lone actors. Be alert to personal safety risks. There continues to be a very high threat of military and terrorist attacks against Israel, Israeli and Jewish interests across the region. (see 'Safety) We advise: Do not travel to Israel overall due to the volatile security situation, armed conflict, civil unrest and terrorism.
- Boliviaby Smartraveller on May 29, 2026
We've reviewed our advice for Bolivia. We now advise reconsider your need to travel to the Department of La Paz due to ongoing civil unrest. There are widespread protests in and around La Paz. The political and security situation in La Paz remains highly unpredictable. There are roadblocks, including on roads to the El Alto International Airport and there are shortages of fuel, food and medical supplies. Stay alert and follow the advice of the local authorities (see 'Safety'). We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Bolivia overall due to the threat of violent crime and the risk of civil unrest. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Bolivia overall due to the threat of violent crime and the risk of civil unrest. Higher levels apply in some areas.
- Rwandaby Smartraveller on May 28, 2026
Due to the outbreak of Ebola disease in DRC and Uganda, authorities are conducting health screening and body temperature checks on arrival in Rwanda. If you’re coming from the DRC, you may be denied entry or subjected to mandatory quarantine measures (see ‘Travel’). We continue to advise exercise normal safety precautions overall in Rwanda. Higher levels apply in some areas. Fighting in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) may affect people on the Rwandan side of the border. Do not travel to the Rubavu district, including the town of Gisenyi, due to the volatile security situation. If you're in the Rubavu district, you should leave if it is safe to do so. Rwanda's border with Burundi and DRC are closed (see 'Safety' and 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise normal safety precautions in Rwanda. Higher levels apply in some areas.
- Tanzaniaby Smartraveller on May 28, 2026
Due to the outbreak of Ebola disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), you must undertake health screening and body temperature checks on arrival in Tanzania. If you’re coming from the DRC or Uganda, you also need to complete a Traveller’s Surveillance Form (see ‘Travel’). We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution overall in Tanzania due to the risk of violent crime and civil unrest. Higher levels apply in some areas. There's an ongoing risk of militant attacks and terrorism, particularly in the Mtwara region near the border with Mozambique. Be alert to your surroundings and pay close attention to your personal security (see 'Safety'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution overall due to the risk of violent crime and civil unrest. Higher levels apply in some areas.
- Sri Lankaby Smartraveller on May 28, 2026
We continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution overall. To enter Sri Lanka, you'll need a visa in the form of an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Apply online before you travel, as there are limited facilities to obtain an ETA on arrival. The ETA is free for Australian passport holders travelling for tourism for up to 30 days. Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice. Check the Sri Lanka ETA website for more details (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Sri Lanka due to the threat of public demonstrations and security risks.
- Somaliaby Smartraveller on May 28, 2026
We continue to advise do not travel to Somalia. If you decide to remain, you're responsible for your own safety. Our ability to provide consular services in Somalia is extremely limited. Terrorist attacks occur frequently. The UK and US Embassies in Somalia issue frequent security alerts about potential imminent terrorist attacks (see 'Safety'). We continue to advise: Do not travel to Somalia due to the dangerous security situation and the threat of armed conflict, terrorism, kidnapping and violent crime.
