Itinerary Insight: Princess Cruises’ Sky Princess

Cruiseco Member Anne Calder tells us about her experience on Sky Princess’ inaugural cruise from Trieste to Athens.

Why did you choose to cruise on this ship and with this cruise line?

We were lucky enough to be invited to sail on Sky Princess as she made her way from Trieste, where she was built, to Athens, from where she sailed first passenger itinerary.

How would you describe the service on board?

Fantastic! The staff all walk around with big smiles on their faces and will go above and beyond to help with whatever you ask.

As it was a “shakedown” cruise, the first time the ship has been at sea with the full crew and fewer passengers than usual, we only made one port call, which was Kotor in Montenegro. So we had two full days at sea to explore the ship between Trieste and Athens. We took a walking tour through Kotor, which was a great way to learn about the history of the place but the highlight for me was getting up to the church (about halfway to the top of a pretty steep path – I didn’t have enough time to get all the way to the fortress) but the view was incredible.

What was your favourite port and why?

Athens. We disembarked the ship at Piraeus and spent a few days after the cruise to explore this ancient wonder. You can actually see a lot of the highlights of Athens in one day if you plan it out. There are so many ruins within walking distance that you can get to the Parthenon, walk around the Acropolis then enjoy a Greek salad and some baklava before flying home in the evening.

What were the highlights for you? Getting to experience the Ocean Medallion technology firsthand was a lot of fun. Super-fast WiFi allows you to order a drink on the app and have it delivered to you wherever you are on the ship and being able to find your “shipmates” easily are just the start of what this game-changing technology can do.

Whether you’re interested in a 34-night European adventure or 5-night Caribbean experience, we have plenty of options.
