Senegal

Elections that were scheduled for late February 2024 have been postponed indefinitely. Demonstrations are likely to occur and could lead to violence throughout the country. Recent protests across Senegal have turned violent, resulting in several deaths and injuries. Avoid protests and public gatherings and remain vigilant. Mobile communications may be disrupted without notice. Follow the advice of local authorities and monitor local media for updates.

The Australian High Commission in Accra currently has very limited capacity to provide consular assistance in Senegal. Check the latest information for travel to and from Senegal (see ‘Travel’).

We advise:

Exercise a high degree of caution in Senegal overall due to the risk of civil unrest.

Higher levels apply.
